The tongue

“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.” – Mark Twain.

Here lies a day and age where there is constant jibber and pissible jabber that leads to the wind taking it no where. It goes no where and has no legs as we may call them to land on the ground sensibly.

This quote is wise and well-known to me because of the Bible. I was told to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. The mouth is an audible vessel which always wants to be out and attend to the waters. The dog is scratching at the door saying, “Let me out, let me out!” Same it is with the relentless tongue and much abuse is continuously notorious for this  advantage of gaining the threshold of the lips. If a castle doesn’t put up the bridge then the siege will walk straight through the defense and the end is very nigh. If you don’t put up your tongue and even close your lips then your city is besieged.

There are many examples in daily life and their are the hints in the conscience of this precious truth. Many times one may regret a word or two that was said and because of it a “Civil War” has arose in the household. Things that left unsaid can be a virtue except when charity is in the stable.

When I write at all; it is to myself especially. I can named listlessly of times where i have promised to my self that I will not speak vainly but its hard to do just that. The desire of man to relinquish on their foes and tell their enemies their mind is a thorn in the flesh. Its like a small pebble in the shoe and the irritation will not subside unless you take it out. Take it out! In this case its the reverse! Hold it in! By the love of peace and quietness hold your tongue or it will betray you immediately. It may even be the death of you!

Jesus said (These are not the exact words), “Nothing that goes in the mouth defiles the body but that which comes out!” He was talking about eating and speaking. A person with unclean hands does not defile themselves, a person that eats pork or shellfish will not (uncooked food may proceed to vomit in some cases) be damned but they with the unclean tongue. Satan used this sword with much trickery and deceitfulness and cloth it  with apples of silver but in the end there is death! The lips may be like honey but the end is bitterness! Beware self and what you justify in yourself!

I remember a story of Abraham Lincoln who spoke very little when it came to his political campaign. Each word he spoke were filled with gun powder that was in a weapon whose duty was to fire with exact precision. He spoke just a few sentences when he spoke to city to city on his way to the White house! It was enough though! It seems like a man with few words shows that their is more where that came from. When a person exhausts his supply everywhere he goes; he has none left for himself.

I don’t know if this will be something I myself will be able to preform but its worth a fixed goal nonetheless!

Blah!

“Has this world been so kind to you that you should leave with regret? There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – C.S. Lewis

At times in one’s life there is a thought that comes like lightning. It is strong and is hard to resist! The thought that one’s life wasn’t spent to the utmost of the highest capacity or the thought of regret which keeps a person from stepping onto that eternal shore with ease. If one makes their home here then they will be strangers in the next. Its better to be a stranger and Pilgrim in this land with Abraham then to be like the Rich man’s loss of the bosom of Abraham.

A clear view of this life depends upon the clear view of the next. The way a person trots and walks is the external site of an internal philosophy they hold. Whether they say, ” eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die!”Or as George Herbert once said in one of his poems called, Mans Medley, “as a Bird drinks and lifts up his head so it is with man who sips and thinks of a better place he may obtain to after his death.”

The implications of this quote is simply vast but I’m limited in knowledge for a widespread range of view.

I can see C.S. Lewis hinting at the case of the world appearing to be kind but it really isn’t. The world that God has made is good like he said but man has taken it and carved it out for a idol of his own. He is like Laban when he hunted down Jacob to accuse him of stealing his idol. Death is no friend of any but more of a enemy to most. It can be a nuisance to lay in bed and hearing the news of a soon departure. What thoughts would go through ones mind in this state? Is this all? is this all the world had to offer me? It promised so much but gave so little! There are seasons of life that are pleasant in their time and soon go to others parts that are natural for all.

Death is something that everyone knows will come but very little want to face when they are alive. There is a dragon but very little go and get St. George to kill the Dragon. Maybe, there is no St. George and this Dragon is some Demi-god that is left us no other choice but to put our neck in the guillotine.

This should not be the view whatsoever! There is an heaven and there is a hell. there is an after-life and it is something to think about. It is after-all going to happen no matter what.

There is better life awaiting them that have held to these truths that Jesus has died and he has arose. Yes, there are many vital truths to notice and discuss but this is the center. The incarnation is first in time and the resurrection is the first in all our thinking. If God died on the cross and arose out of the grave this means we have hope. They that believe in Jesus Christ shall suffer in this life but in the end their is Joy forevermore. Literally, Joy will be there and we shall see his face. He will be like us as man and he will be on his throne as he said. For God speaks and the earth stands fast. All things apprehend the majesty of God and are obedient. The fallen angels and mankind are the only bent ones that I know of.

If you don’t want to take my word for it that’s fine. Yet, I would say its better to hear my timid and pesky little voice then the thunder of he that sits on the throne!

This quote also reminds me of the past of a christian. He can easily get surrounded with accusations of all sorts that are formed from the pass. The past may say you did this and you did that so the sum total is unpleasantness. Everyone can regret something in their lives and some can be right to regret but wrong to trip over. What has been does has been done and a good thought is who ever is worrying about Yesterdays failure loses todays strengths.

A christian has something that nobody else has and it is this; they have the creator of the universe as their Sovereign Ruler, their Savior/Redeemer, and their guide/comforter. If one would think about this and really get hold of what is really happening in their situation as a christian; the results are outstanding!

Yes, there are difficulties and dangers but the damage has been done already. Forget about what you once were because in one look towards your self, you lose one look towards the true image of Christ.

This story of life may seem like a one man show of Self and his story but if all things were put in full perspective, it would be otherwise. The savior Jesus Christ is one who is the giver of life and the taker because from him, through him, and to him are all things; amen!

The quote is actually a question and I just figured that out by re-reading it a couple of times. He does give a respectable answer to it but each person has to answer this for himself. Has the world truly been all this good to you? I mean out of all experience, was it all like a gentle mother that bade you to rest on her bosom? Did it ever betray you or ever have a underlining of bitterness? Did it ever come in your mind of man that this is not a perfect world? Why would you want to stay in a world that is fallen anyhow?

It reminds me of the chronicles of Narnia in prince Caspian that they had a choice to stay or to leave Narnia. This quote also remind me of Jacob and the ruler of Egypt. Jacob said “The days of the years of my pilgrimage have been few and evil,”.

I would think one would want to go home because its OK to be home-sick here for its not our home neither should we trick ourselves in thinking it ever was.
